Exploring natural clays, expanding the Ravenna Trollbooth

I've been preparing, and starting to use, a couple of new clay bodies from Bikini Creek, our place on Key Peninsula.  The Ravenna Trollbooth Authority has also created new habitats for life forms North of the original stump.

So, it turns out that Bikini Creek "low bank" clay is low fire....found out by firing it at midrange and watching it melt and deform.

The luxury of two Summer months in Seattle!  Learning the ways of a new, darker clay body,  finishing some long neglected projects, continuing the quest to make the perfect mug and adding life to our  second home at Bikini Creek.

In Utqiagvik

It has taken a while to learn how to use this local clay which we  dug fresh from a bluff on the Chuckchi Sea.  It's black, grainy, a bit brittle.  I've drawn inspiration from  a beautiful polar bear we saw out on the ice a few weeks ago and the 10 legged polar bear of Inupiat legend.
